The Bible states that in the last days, people will become “uncontrolled,” meaning they will lack self-control (2 Timothy 3:3). The New Testament, which was written in Greek, uses the term “uncontrolled,” derived from the word “Kratos,” signifying power. A person who lacks self-control is essentially powerless. In the Greek Bible, there are various words for power, such as “exousia” and “dunamis,” but “Kratos” specifically refers to dominion or control—particularly over death—similar to Jesus. Jesus possesses power over death, having overcome the devil (Hebrews 2:14).
In Mary’s town, there were many young girls, so why was she chosen to be the mother of Jesus Christ? Several reasons could account for this choice, but the most significant one is her example of self-control. When the angel appeared to Mary, she was engaged to Joseph, and the Bible notes that she was a virgin, as prophesied (Luke 1:26-27). Mary maintained her virginity in the truest sense, having had no sexual relations with her fiancé before their marriage. While some may doubt Mary’s purity to justify their own shortcomings and sins, her self-control and chastity highlight her unique role in God’s divine plan.
In today’s world, many Christian girls often engage in physical intimacy with their fiancés through kisses, hugs, or prolonged dating. While a casual call may not be problematic, being physically intimate before marriage goes against God’s standards of holiness. Self-control is essential; physical intimacy should be reserved for marriage as part of God’s design.
Due to a lack of self-control, many girls and women face unplanned pregnancies, leading some to consider abortion when they are not married. This decision results in the tragic loss of innocent life.
Moreover, in contemporary Christianity, many girls and women struggle to maintain control over their attire, as noted in 1 Timothy 2:9. Wearing modest clothing does not automatically equate to holiness; a person’s heart may still be corrupt. However, God desires that girls and women dress modestly to avoid causing other men to be sexually tempted.
Today, in some European cultures, even Christian women may dress immodestly at church, believing that cultural norms justify their choices. This mindset can be misleading; while it may reflect the culture of some countries, it does not align with biblical values.
In summary, lacking self-control can lead women to face various difficulties in life, including divorce, heartbreak, breakups, and health issues. God wants us to live a controlled life, which ultimately grants us power over death.
