Genesis 15:7 states, “And He said to him, ‘I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as an inheritance.’” God called Abraham to leave his birthplace because the idolatry there could negatively impact his faith and hinder His great plan.
“God is the Lord of the future, not the past.” Whenever God wants to use someone powerfully or bless them abundantly, He often takes that person away from their past life or commands them to give up past habits. For instance, God instructed Gideon to destroy his father’s idols, which represented his former life. Gideon understood that fulfilling God’s plan was impossible while being entangled in his past. (Judges 6:25 )
When someone gets saved and is baptized in water, going under the water symbolizes dying to their old life, while emerging from the water represents receiving a new life dedicated to Christ.
“Satan tries his best to entice any Christian back into the same situations from which God has delivered them.” God took Abraham out of the region of Chaldea, but centuries later, Abraham’s descendants were taken captive back to the same area (Chaldea/Babylon) as seen in 2 Kings 24-25 and Daniel 1.
* Be cautious if God has delivered you from alcohol and smoking; Satan will try to draw you back into those habits.
* If God has freed you from idolatry or the LGBT community, Satan will attempt to bring you back.
* If God has delivered you from evil spirits, be aware that Satan may try to ensnare you once again, as he is persistent and will revisit you to recapture you.
I remember a young woman who once lived a sinful life but was delivered by God’s mercy and is now preaching. God advised her to stop visiting places that trigger memories of her past.
I encourage you to avoid all habits, relationships, places, social media sites, memories, and anything that draws you back to your past. You must quit these things immediately because you cannot fulfill God’s plans and promises while living in the past.
