*Joshua 10:12-13*
[12] Then Joshua spoke to the Lord on the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, be silent, and stand still at Gibeon, and you, moon, in the Valley of Ajalon!”
[13] And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed until the nation took vengeance upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of the heavens and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.
In the Old Testament, when nations would attack and fight against the Israelites, it was the Lord’s command for the Israelites to engage in battle and win for their nation. Throughout biblical history, we see many great figures who faced and fought battles at various stages of their lives.
David’s first battle was with rejection from his family, followed by fights with lions, bears, and wolves to protect his sheep. During this time, God trained him with a sling and stone, which ultimately led to his confrontation with Goliath. Goliath may have trained with a sword, javelin, and shield, but he would have never thought he could be defeated by a simple stone from a sling.
Esther, the Queen, initially battled loneliness as an orphan. She might have questioned God, wondering why all children have parents but not her. This struggle prepared her for the fasting she later undertook when the annihilation of the Jews was plotted by their enemies.
Similarly, today we face challenges not just with people but with our own anger, hatred, rejection, addiction, debt, sickness, and all the wickedness that falls under darkness.
In our battles, we need light. Without light, we cannot achieve victory. Just as Joshua halted the sun and moon because he understood that without the sun’s light, they could not fight, we too need the light in our lives. Jesus and His word serve as our light in our struggles.
As Jesus said, many people avoid the light because their actions and lifestyles are wrong. They love their sins and prefer to remain in darkness, hiding their rejections and pain through vices like alcohol instead of confronting the issues.
Those who seek the light often carry weaknesses, bad habits, and struggles, but they can find assurance that the light they are approaching has the power to free them.
The Bible is the only true source of this light. The more you read and meditate on God’s word, the more revelations you will receive.
Revelation gives you a clearer vision to identify problems and understand what you need to do or stop. Once you recognize the issue, you will be better equipped to solve it.
Consider the story of a man born without limbs or legs, who contemplated suicide. One day, while reading the Bible, he discovered the story of a man born blind. When he questioned whether this was due to his parents’ sin, Jesus replied that it was so the works of God could be displayed in him. This revelation transformed his mindset, and he went on to become Pastor Nick Vujicic, inspiring many with his story.
