God Almighty knows the deepest secrets of our hearts; He has searched our thoughts and feelings. He is aware of what we have yet to express, including the things that remain unspoken. If He already knows our innermost thoughts, why should we pour out our deepest feelings before Him?
In Jeremiah 20:12, the prophet states, “For unto Thee, O Lord, I open my cause.” The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew, and the word used for “open” in Hebrew is “galah,” which means to “uncover” or “reveal” something hidden.
In this context, Jeremiah reveals his struggles, conflicts , suffering within himself before God.
For example, when someone tragically loses a loved one and does not cry, it can lead to inner depression However crying can help unburden the heart. Similarly, when we cry out to the Lord, we are unburdening ourselves.
Just as a mother will not attend to her baby’s needs unless the baby cries, believing the baby is okay, Jesus teaches us: “Ask, and you will be given.” (Matthew 7:7)
So, how should we pour out our hearts in prayer?
Consider a child who is bullied at school and told they are too short or dark; such comments can deeply sadden them. When they come before the Lord to express their feelings, they must convey everything that was said to them. Simply asking God, “Why am I not taller?” is not enough. Instead, they should share their experiences and feelings in detail.
Similarly, if a woman longs for children and faces taunts from others for not having a son, she may feel anger and pray for strength to overcome it. However, that could be a misguided prayer. Feeling anguish is a natural emotional response. Instead, she should bring her honest feelings, word by word, before God.
Many might think God is not interested in their struggles, but He cares more deeply than anyone else-more than a father, mother, or sibling. When we share our feelings with God, we reveal our burdens and allow Him to affirm that we are justified in feeling the way we do.
God listens and responds as a loving parent, acknowledging the wrongs that have been done to us.
*Spiritual and Practical Examples:*
– A girl who had a pimple on her face felt so depressed that she didn’t tell anyone and ultimately attempted suicide.
– A boy was tormented by thoughts from Satan, believing he should engage in a sexual relationship with his mother. He felt scared and tense but fought through these thoughts and came into God’s presence.
*In Summary: Psalm 62:8: Pour Out Your Heart Before the Lord*
Sharing your deep thoughts, whether right or wrong, with God brings freedom from any schemes of Satan. The rapid rise in depression today consists largely of thoughts that continue to burden us, leading to a longing for freedom. By openly sharing your deepest feelings with God, you can find relief and healing
