When David confronted Goliath, he was a young boy who had never fought in a battle before and lacked experience in the army. Yet, he faced the giant and struck Goliath’s head with a stone from his sling. This raises the question: why did David specifically aim for Goliath’s head instead of his foot, hand, mouth, or teeth? If David had hit Goliath in the eyes, the giant might have lost his sight, but he still wouldn’t have fallen. Striking Goliath’s nose or mouth could have caused injury, yet the mighty Goliath would likely not have been defeated.
By the spirit of the Lord, David understood that the perfect target to strike was the head, as the head controls the entire body. We have heard of individuals who suffer severe brain injuries that lead to their demise. David wisely targeted his enemy’s head.
Many Christians recognize the value of giving and sowing seeds into God’s Kingdom, yet they often overlook their specific areas of impact. Giving and sowing seeds are blessings and powerful weapons to defeat one’s enemies. However, this is effective only when one knows the right target to hit, just as David did. Some Christians are genuine givers and are blessed by God for their generosity, but they may not strike the perfect target.
In 1 Kings 3:4-5, it states:
[4] “And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
[5] In Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, ‘Ask what I shall give thee.'”
Many Christians give offerings but do not experience God’s encounter like King Solomon did. Solomon’s giving was not merely for charitable acts, like supporting widows and orphans; instead, it was a specific and heartfelt offering known only to those who spend precious time with the Lord. God Himself moved Solomon’s heart to give.
The Shunammite woman prepared a furnished room for the prophet Elisha, equipping it with a candlestick, bed, table, and stool for his visits. This thoughtful gesture touched Elisha’s heart, and in return, he blessed her with a baby boy, since she had been childless for a long time. The Shunammite woman focused on her specific area of giving; instead of simply sending offerings to the Tabernacle, she was prompted by the spirit of the Lord to recognize where she could make a difference and receive her blessing.(2 kings 4:8-17)
In your giving and sowing of seeds, remember to recognize your area of calling. Are you meant to bless the church, support missionaries, or assist in evangelism efforts? Are you called to help the needy, poor children, or support widows? “Recognizing your area for sowing seeds prepares you to strike perfectly and defeat your Goliath.”
In Acts 9:36-42, a woman named Tabitha was known for her generosity, kindness, and charity toward widows, orphans, and the poor. When she died, the apostle Peter was informed about all the good she had done. After hearing this, he prayed to God, and she returned to life. I believe this woman was called to serve the needy, and that is why she was raised from the dead—because she knew in her heart where her seeds should be sown.
*The Timing of Sowing Seeds*
In John 12:1-8, a woman named Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume. One of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, complained that the perfume could have been sold for 300 denarii—an entire year’s wages—to help the poor. However, Jesus said, “She has done a beautiful thing for me; she prepared for my burial.” At that moment, Jesus was about to be crucified and buried, making it the perfect timing for her act of love.
Some people sow seeds at the wrong time. For example, if a church building is under construction, and they want to prepare a meal for those attending Sunday service, the timing may not be appropriate.
Balance is also crucial in sowing. Sometimes, when you have a significant amount to give, the spirit of the Lord may direct you to distribute it in a balanced way. Helping the poor brings peace, sowing into evangelism can lead to financial blessings, and supporting your spiritual mentor can enhance your anointing to break every chain of bondage.
