In today’s world, people are increasingly conscious of their outer appearance. Many strive to look attractive, often for themselves or to feel more comfortable around others. I remember a girl who saved thousands of dollars for surgery, believing that she would have a beautiful and brighter future after the procedure.

This desire for external beauty can sometimes reflect the complexity of feeling inferior, a scheme that can be traced back to Satan. When someone comments negatively on your appearance—like your nose shape, lip shape, or skin tone—it can lead to feelings of inadequacy and dejection.

Consider a mother whose child may not be considered conventionally beautiful. She loves her child profoundly and feels upset when anyone criticizes the child’s looks. This situation mirrors how God, who created us, feels when humans criticize each other’s bodies.

*A Biblical Perspective*

The Bible tells us that God created Adam in His own image, meaning we reflect the likeness of God Almighty. When God sent Samuel to choose the next king of Israel from the sons of Jesse, Samuel assumed God would pick the eldest son, who was tall and handsome. However, God instructed Samuel that He does not consider appearance as humans do; He looks at the heart. (Genesis 1:26-27)

This means that God rejected the tall and handsome individual not because He dislikes attractive people but because He values inner character more highly. David, who was just a boy and not as tall as his brothers, was chosen by God and used mightily to defeat Goliath.

Satan may instill negative thoughts in us, telling us that we are short or unattractive compared to others, but remember that we are highly valued and loved by God.

The Bible states that we are “wonderfully and fearfully made” (Psalm 139:14 ). When we consider cosmetic surgery to change our features, we may be disrespecting God by implying that He did not create ideally. Many undergo surgery without considering the gravity of this decision. I know people who appeared attractive before surgery but became unappealing afterward.

God understands how He made us. If someone changes their natural broad nose to a narrow one through surgery, it might not suit them, as God knows which nose shape complements which facial structure. There are individuals with less conventional features who still appear charming and appealing.

The world would lack diversity and beauty if everyone had the same eye shape or facial features; God intentionally created a variety of shapes and colors, and everything He made has its own kind of beauty.

”One of the most significant attacks from the devil is to instill insecurity in us, making us doubt the beauty with which God has endowed us”.
The Bible reminds us that while beauty may be fleeting and deceptive, genuine praise is for those women who honor and revere the Lord. ( Proverb 31:30)

*How Can We Counter This Attack?*

1. Meditate on the verse that affirms, “I am wonderfully made.”
2. Declare openly that I am the beautiful creation of God.
3. Rebuke the devil’s thoughts in the name of Jesus, just as Jesus did with evil spirits, as they can be persistent.

Taking care of your health through exercise and a skincare routine is beneficial. However, cosmetic surgery can reflect a lack of faith in God’s wisdom and show ingratitude toward Him.
