Salvation is a free gift from God that cannot be earned through good deeds. When you believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and declare this belief, you receive salvation.
As soon as people receive Jesus as their Savior and get baptized, they overcome sin. This means they gain the power to say “no” to sin and are now capable of pleasing God and maintaining a beautiful relationship with Him. Without Jesus, it is impossible to have a relationship with the Heavenly Father. Through Him, you escape God’s eternal judgment and can spend eternity with Him. However, you are still called to work out your salvation.
Getting baptized and accepting Jesus as your Savior means you have been saved . Salvation is like a baby that you must nurture and care for to help it grow to maturity. This includes daily evaluations, such as asking yourself: “Have I prayed today? Have I read the Word? Have I lied or misused my tongue by engaging in negative conversations? Did I offend God or discredit the name of Jesus?”
This is a continual process, not just a two- or three-year course. Each evaluation is not done merely on your own. You may find it difficult to pray for hours, avoid lying, control your anger, or manage the desires of the flesh without help.
The following verse, Philippians 2:17, provides good news: it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His purpose. In your Christian journey, you are not alone, and you do not achieve this through your own strength. It is God who first instills in you the desire to give up bad habits, and He also empowers you to do so because relying solely on your own strength is not sustainable.
All you need to do is cooperate with the Lord by asking Him in prayer and declaring the word of God. “It is God who gives you the desire and will to please Him and provides the plan for how to do it.”
